Walker charged with DUI
Around the league

Former Grizzlies player Antoine Walker was charged with suspicion of drunk driving in Miami Beach early Monday morning, further hurting his chances of playing again this season.

Walker was driving a black Mercedes without the lights on when he was pulled over at 5:39 a.m., according to the arrest report. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and wrote in the report that Walker had a sleepy look on his face. He refused a breathalyzer test.

Walker was a three-time All-Star forward for the Boston Celtics and helped the Miami Heat win the NBA championship in 2006. He was also a starting forward on Kentucky's 1996 national title team.

His up-and-down career has often been just as tumultuous off the court.

In July 2007, Walker and a relative were bound at gunpoint while multiple robbers took a car, cash and jewelry from his suburban-Chicago residence. He also was the victim of an armed robbery in 2000 along with center Nazr Mohammed as the two sat in a vehicle waiting for a restaurant to open on Chicago's South Side.

And his once prominent career has since faded.

Walker struggled in 46 games with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. His contract was bought out by the Grizzlies in December, making him a free agent.

The 32-year-old Chicago native was selected sixth overall in the 1996 NBA draft by the Celtics, earning All-Star honors in 1998, 2002 and 2003. He ranks 10th in league history for 3-point field goals made (1,386) and second (sixth all-time) in 3-point field goal attempts (4,264).

He played a key role off the bench in Miami's championship run in 2006. But he was often dogged by fans late in his career for his poor conditioning, briefly being suspended by then-Heat coach Pat Riley in the 2006-07 season over his body-fat level.

The 6-foot-9, 245-pound forward has not played this season but has indicated he wants to sign with another NBA team.

Walker was being held Monday on a $1,000 bond, and jail officials said they did not immediately know if he has attorney.

In developments

Suns' Richardson gets DUI: Suns guard Jason Richardson is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol in an American Indian tribal community in metropolitan Phoenix.

A citation filed in court says the ex-Michigan State star was stopped by a Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community police officer in the early morning of Dec. 21.

Richardson is accused of having a blood alcohol level above 0.08 percent of failure to drive in one lane. A hearing date hasn't been set.

Golden State roster shuffle: The Golden State Warriors waived rookie guard DeMarcus Nelson on Monday and recalled forward Jermareo Davidson from the D-League's Idaho Stampede.

Nelson was the Warriors' starting point guard on opening night, but he quickly fell out of favor with coach Don Nelson. He appeared in just 13 games with Golden State, averaging 4.1 points.

Clippers' moves: The Clippers acquired 7-foot-1 Cheikh Samb of Senegal from the Nuggets for a conditional second-round draft pick.

The Clippers also waived forward Paul Davis and guard Fred Jones and received cash considerations as part of the deal.

Nets' Harris out: Devin Harris aggravated his injured right hamstring and did not return for the second half of New Jersey's game against the Kings on Monday night.

Injury report

Briefly: Lakers forward Luke Walton will be sidelined for at least two weeks by a foot injury. Walton has sesamoiditis in his right foot and will wear a protective boot for a week, the team said. The condition is an irritation of the sesamoid bones that extend to the big toe and generally heals without surgery. ... Raptors center Jermaine O'Neal (sore knee) and guard Jose Calderon (hamstring) were not with the team when Toronto began a two-game road trip Monday night against the Bucks. Milwaukee was without center Andrew Bogut (back spasms) for the second straight game.

Monday's games

Spurs 91, Heat 84 at Miami: Tim Duncan scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Southwest Division-leading San Antonio held off Miami.

Dwyane Wade had 24 points and 12 assists - his eighth double-double of the season - for the Heat, who also got 15 points from Shawn Marion.

Nets 98, Kings 90 at East Rutherford, N.J.: Vince Carter scored 29 points and Yi Jianlian added 22 points and 13 rebounds as New Jersey topped Sacramento.

Kevin Martin, who scored 45 on Saturday night, had 36 points for the woeful Kings.

Bucks 107, Raptors 97 at Milwaukee: Michael Redd had a season-high 35 points, leading Milwaukee over Toronto.

Chris Bosh had 31 points and 11 rebounds to help Toronto hold the lead through most of three quarters.
