Miami Heat's Shawn Marion a forgotten man

Miami Heat's Shawn Marion a forgotten man
Jan. 12--As it turns out, Heat forward Shawn Marion wasn't benched during the fourth quarter and overtime of Miami's victory Friday night at Sacramento.

Instead, he was a forgotten man.

Marion said he spoke with coach Erik Spoelstra about the end of Friday's game, and both agreed that Marion's absence was an oversight.

"[Spoelstra] said he forgot about me," Marion said before Sunday's game against the Lakers.

"Mistakes happen. It wasn't supposed to happen. He said the team that was out there, they were on a run. Might as well see if they could finish."

The Heat finished Friday's game with Mario Chalmers, Dwyane Wade, Daequan Cook, Michael Beasley and Udonis Haslem.

Spoelstra said Marion handled the situation professionally.

"He was great," Spoelstra said. 'We talked, and he said, 'Hey, no worries.' He was up there cheering and encouraging his teammates. It's about the team, and sometimes it's going to be a different mix."

GETTING UP TO SPEED

James Jones played in his second game in a row Sunday after missing the season's first 35 games to recover from wrist surgery.

Jones was part of a Heat second unit Sunday that included Chris Quinn, Cook, Beasley and Jamaal Magloire. Jones played three minutes Sunday against the Kings. He logged twice as many minutes by the second quarter Sunday against the Lakers.

"I'm just trying to get myself back up to the speed of the game," Jones said. "It's going to take some time."

A DOUBLE FEATURE

What could bring Pat Riley, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Dwyane Wade and Shawn Marion to the same arena on the same day?

The answer: a star-studded doubleheader at Staples Center. That was the case Sunday when O'Neal and the Phoenix Suns played the Clippers in the matinee with the Heat and Lakers playing in the nightcap.
