Miami Heat Roster Report 2009-08-19
PLAYER NEWS:

--F Michael Beasley continues working to hone his small forward skills. Beasley, a power forward, is being viewed by the Heat as someone who can play both forward positions. Heat president Pat Riley even mentioned the possibility of F Udonis Haslem and Beasley playing together. Haslem, of course, is the starting power forward.

--G Mario Chalmers "has had a great summer," according to president Pat Riley. Chalmers, who started all 82 games last season as a rookie second-round pick, was a standout defender last season. He teamed with G Dwyane Wade to form one of the league's top steals duos. Chalmers' development is so encouraging, in fact, the Heat doesn't feel the need to shop for a top-notch backup point guard. When Riley was asked if the Heat had interest in former G Jason Williams he said "not at this moment right now."

--C Jermaine O'Neal is supposedly progressing well as he strives to have a healthy season, free from knee and hip problems. Heat president Pat Riley is optimistic.

"I just think with Jermaine you have to wait until the season starts," Riley said. "We might be able to get an All-Star season out of the guy."

MEDICAL WATCH: No injuries to report.

DRAFT PICKS:

Patrick Beverley, G, 6-1, Ukraine/Arkansas (second round) -- Beverley, taken with the 43rd pick, played professionally in Ukraine last season, leaving Arkansas after his junior year. He's aggressive and can play both guard positions.

Robert Dozier, F, 6-9, Memphis (second round) -- There's a chance he plays in Europe next season. Miami believes he can play small forward although he was a power forward in college.
