Miami Heat Roster Report 2009-07-25

Miami Heat Roster Report 2009-07-25
DRAFT PICKS:

Patrick Beverley, G, 6-1, Ukraine/Arkansas (second round) -- Beverley, taken with the 43rd pick, played professionally in Ukraine last season, leaving Arkansas after his junior year. He's aggressive and can play both guard positions.

Robert Dozier, F, 6-9, Memphis (second round) -- There's a chance he plays in Europe next season. Miami believes he can play small forward although he was a power forward in college.

PLAYER NEWS:

--G Dwyane Wade has left Converse and will now represent Nike and Michael Jordan's Jumpman brand. Nike owns Converse but the companies operate independently. The remaining three years on Wade's contract with Converse were shifted into a Nike contract. Terms aren't known.

--C Jamaal Magloire signed a one-year deal to return to the Heat, where he had success last season in the locker room with his easy-going personality and on the court with his rough-and-tumble personality. Magloire is limited in his ability to score. But he's an enforcer who gives the defense an attitude. Beyond that, G Dwyane Wade likes playing alongside Magloire.

--C Joel Anthony signed a one-year deal to return to the Heat, lending his shot-blocking skills to a team that sorely needs such a talent. Anthony remains a project, however. His hands are bad, which means he struggles to rebound and shoot. However, he's athletic and the Heat has already invested two years in Anthony, who has shown good progress.

MEDICAL WATCH:

No injuries to report.
