DRAFT PICKS:
Patrick Beverley, G, 6-1, Ukraine/Arkansas (second round) -- Beverley, taken with the 43rd pick, played professionally in Ukraine last season, leaving Arkansas after his junior year. He's aggressive and can play both guard positions. Robert Dozier, F, 6-9, Memphis (second round) -- There's a chance he plays in Europe next season. Miami believes he can play small forward although he was a power forward in college.
PLAYER NEWS:
--G Daequan Cook still isn't fully recovered from the right shoulder injury that slowed him late in the season and in the first-round playoff series against Atlanta. Cook said he wants to be 100 percent recovered by training camp.
Cook, who won the three-point contest during NBA All-Star Weekend, struggled during the second half of last season. First, defenders stayed close to him and prevented him from getting his shot, and second, he battled injury.
--G Dwyane Wade said he'd be fair to the Heat during negotiations for a contract extension.
"I'm going to listen," he said. "I owe the Miami Heat that much. I'm going to listen to what they have to say and I'm going to think about it. But right now, the way I feel, I want to make sure that we're on track (before signing an extension)."
Wade stressed this isn't about money. The Heat could sign Wade to a six-year extension; the maximum length another team could give him is five years. That extra year could be worth $25 to $30 million in salary.
"I think when people look at it they see it's not about the money; if it was, I'd sign back," Wade said. "The Heat can pay me more money than any other team so it's all about winning for me and that's what I'm expecting more than anything."
--F Michael Beasley said his life is "completely boring."
"I wake up at 6:30 or 7 o'clock in the morning," he said. "I watch 'Phineas and Ferb' (a cartoon) and about 8;45, 9 o'clock make my way over to the gym. I'm here from 10 o'clock to 2, 2:30, 3 o'clock sometimes.
"I go back home and take a nap until about 7:30, 8 o'clock sometimes. I wake up and play with my dogs. I watch 'Fresh Prince' at 9 o'clock on Nick at Nite, and then I'm in the bed. I honestly don't do anything. I might fly to (his hometown of Washington) D.C., and do the same thing. Basketball and sleep. That's all I do."
