ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Mario Chalmers, Shooting guard Dwyane Wade, Small forward James Jones, Power forward Michael Beasley, Center Jermaine O'Neal. Bench -- Guard Daequan Cook, Forward Udonis Haslem, Guard Carlos Arroyo, Center Joel Anthony. PLAYER NOTES: --F James Jones finally had a breakout game with his 16-point performance in Orlando, completing a four-point play in the first quarter and later drawing three free throws on a pump fake. James had previously never scored more than 13 in his two seasons with the Heat.
--Coach Erik Spoelstra downplayed the .276 shooting percentage G Daequan Cook brought into Wednesday's game in Orlando.
"In this league," Spoelstra said, "sometimes your rhythm and confidence can be fragile, and it doesn't take a whole lot to knock it off. What I like about what Daequan is doing is he's working on it."
Cook shot 2-of-6 against the Magic, to actually raise his percentage.
--By contrast, Spoelstra said he was not surprised by the .528 percentage G Mario Chalmers brought into the Magic game.
"He has put in more time on his shooting than I think he ever has in his life," Spoelstra said. "All summer, he was in there more than anybody else that we had. It was something we talked about, eventually all that work would pay off."
Chalmers then shot 0-for-3 in Orlando.
MEDICAL WATCH:
