Miami Heat rookie comfortable without an agent

Miami Heat rookie comfortable without an agent
Jan. 22--Heat rookie forward Michael Beasley has suspended his search for a new agent, and might go without NBA representation for a few more seasons.

Beasley, the second overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, officially has been without an agent since he parted with Joel Bell in September amid disputes over endorsements.

According to the NBA's rookie-scale contract, Beasley is guaranteed about $9 million over his first two seasons. He already secured a shoe contract with adidas and several other minor marketing and endorsement deals.

"Me signing with another agent right now would probably be one of my dumbest decisions," Beasley said.

"I've already got my [NBA] contract, my shoe deal, my endorsements. So me signing an agent before my next contract -- before my next deal comes up -- I'd be paying him for nothing."

Beasley, 20, has a personal assistant who lives in Miami. He also has a general business manager.

Beasley plans to delay hiring an NBA-related agent until he's eligible to negotiate his first long-term extension, most likely after the 2010-2011 season.

"I haven't been thinking about that at all lately," Beasley said. "I've got people that help me in this transition.

"I've got representatives. It'll be a while before I get an agent."

WRIGHT PRACTICES

Dorell Wright has resumed practicing with the team but remains a week or so away from working his way into an active role.

Coach Erik Spoelstra said Wright, who is coming back from surgery on his left knee, did not have any complications Wednesday after going through Tuesday's workout.

"He's going to have to get quite a few of these practices in," Spoelstra said. "He's rusty. That's to be expected. There's an adjustment."

The Heat will honor Olympic gold medalists Dwyane Wade (2008), Tim Hardaway (2000) and Alonzo Mourning (2000) at halftime of the Jan. 31 home game against Dallas.
