Miami Heat Notes, Quotes 2009-12-06

Miami Heat Notes, Quotes 2009-12-06--The Heat will be without center Jermaine O'Neal for Sunday's game in Sacramento due to a family issue.

O'Neal, who had left the team a week ago to be with a critically ill uncle in Columbia, S.C., will miss the game to return to his family there.

O'Neal was to leave the team following Friday night's game against the Lakers at Staples Center to return to South Carolina.

Jamaal Magloire played as the Heat's first center off the bench Friday. The Heat also could utilize either Joel Anthony or Udonis Haslem at center against the Kings in the final game of the team's four-game trip.

The Heat will not have to rush O'Neal back, with its next game after the trip not until Dec. 11 at AmericanAirlines Arena against the Mavericks.

--Envy? Dwyane Wade won't go that far.

But when he saw Kobe Bryant and the Lakers on Friday night at Staples Center, the Heat guard saw a team in a different place.

"He's got the team that he wanted," Wade said of a Bryant supporting cast that includes Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Ron Artest and former Heat forward Lamar Odom.

And then there is Wade, who continues in a holding pattern, as the Heat waits to makes its move on the 2010 free agent market.

For now, it has left Wade looking for help in a support system that has not been all that supportive recently, beyond the play of second-year power forward Michael Beasley.

--All five Heat starters scored in double figures. Udonis Haslem came off the bench to score 14 points.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "There's nothing for our guys to feel ashamed about. We're close. We're close to having a breakthrough right now." -- Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, in the wake of Friday's 108-107 loss to the Lakers, on Kobe Bryant's 3-pointer at the buzzer.
