Miami Heat: How confident are you about keeping Wade?

Miami Heat: How confident are you about keeping Wade?
May 4, 2009 (Sun Sentinel delivered by Newstex ) --

The Heat's post-mortem press conferences ended?just short of?2 p.m.

I'll post more later here, after finishing a column and video.

Dwyane Wade spoke about how much fun he had this season off the floor.

The issue is on the floor.

"Thirty points: is that something I want to do every year?" he said, while smiling. "Not really."

So he needs help. And he needs it soon, before his prime is gone and his body breaks down. The question is whether it can come from within, or whether Pat Riley needs to?make a major pre-2010 move, to show Wade that he can contend here and should re-sign here.

After Sunday's loss, Wade noted that the Hawks had four athletic guys that could create a play.

I asked him today how the Heat compares.

"Mario (Chalmers) and myself are mostly the ones making the plays," Wade said. "Michael (Beasley) is mostly shooting when he puts the ball on the floor."

Again, Wade was smiling when he said that.

Wade was asked if he would lobby for changes.

He said that he would not.

And, then, another smile.

"MIchael's gonna take more shots next year, so there's only so many to go around," Wade said.

At that moment, Beasley poked his head into the door of the interview room.

"Hey, buddy," Wade said, laughing.

They have a playful relationship off the court. Can they take that to the next level on the floor? Or should they move Beasley to get someone like Chris Bosh, if that becomes an option?

One thing on Bosh: consider that Wade talked about needing more?guys who can create. Bosh is a top-5 inside player in the NBA, and that certainly appeals to Riley, but it sounds to me like Wade is really calling for some perimeter or wing?help. That makes me think that Caron Butler could be the best option, if the Wizards strike it rich in the lottery and want to move one of their three scorers.

Wade was asked if he would consider signing an extension this offseason.

He laughed nervously, and just spoke about the organization's "open communication" without committing to anything.

So that's the big question:

Are you confident he will stay?

And do you think the Heat needs to act to make sure that he does?
