Miami Heat Getting Inside 2008-07-31
Things are very quiet for the Heat, and as president Pat Riley and general manager Randy Pfund both hinted, it appears Miami will wait until August to make a move.

The Heat still seeks a point guard despite the Summer League success of rookie Mario Chalmers, a second-round pick from Kansas. Along with Chalmers, the Heat has Marcus Banks at point guard. Miami is hopeful Chris Quinn, a restricted free agent, returns.

But even then there isn't much experience, so the Heat remains in the thin point guard market. Miami is also seeking a center, either a starter or backup. Currently, Mark Blount is the starter. He's a decent scorer and good shooter, but he doesn't provide the rebounding and defense Miami needs.

Trades remain a possibility but the Heat either has too much to offer (such as Shawn Marion or Udonis Haslem) or it doesn't have enough (Dorell Wright, Quinn, Ricky Davis) are all either unrestricted free agents or restricted free agents.

Riley has previously stated the Heat doesn't need a traditional point guard such as Phoenix's Steve Nash, so most likely they'll go with a veteran fill-in for the time being, but look for Chalmers to probably win the job eventually.
