Dwyane Wade has been making the news for the Heat recently, most notably after saying he'd heard his name mentioned in trade rumors and then backing off that statement after talking to team president Pat Riley.
"The trade rumors circulating are simply rumors," Wade said in a statement. Wade previously told the Chicago Tribune he'd heard his name mentioned in trade rumors.
Wade, who has been rehabilitating his left knee because of the tendinitis that slowed him all season, also declared himself ready for the Olympics in Beijing.
"If I'm going to the Olympics and I'm not 100 percent (healthy), I'm not going to play," he said.
Wade, who is working with renowned trainer Tim Grover in Chicago, began playing 5-on-5 games last week. He said he'd ask New Orleans guard Chris Paul and Denver forward Carmelo Anthony to join him working out in Chicago. Wade is good friends with both players.
"I'm just focused on training," Wade said. "I'm past rehab. I'm focused on training and getting in basketball form and basketball shape."
SEASON HIGHLIGHT: Not many. Perhaps securing the worst record in the league. Seriously. It assures a top-four pick and helps move along the rebuilding process.
TURNING POINT: The November practice run-in between coach Pat Riley and former center Shaquille O'Neal. Alonzo Mourning had to intervene before it got physical. It was at that point the relationship between Riley and O'Neal hit the breaking point. That led to the February trade that brought Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks and signaled the Heat was giving up on the season.
