At the buzzer, it was Laker guard Kobe Bryant's "luckiest shot" -- a three-point bank shot from straight on -- that sent the Heat to a bitter one-point loss Friday night at Staples Center. But before Kobe's bank shot, Miami shot itself in the foot repeatedly at the free throw line. The Heat made just 15 of 24 free throws, and no Heat player struggled more at the stripe than guard Dwyane Wade. Wade missed six of his 18 free throws, including a huge miss down the stretch.
The Heat owned a four-point lead with 9.3 seconds left, but Lakers guard Derek Fisher sliced that lead to one when he nailed three-point shot. The Lakers quickly fouled Wade, but he made just one of two free throws.
Moments later, Bryant took the inbounds pass, dribbled to the top of the key and launched his prayer, which was answered.
"We did what we were supposed to do," Wade said. "Fisher hit an unbelievable three. Kobe hit that shot. We've done the same thing to other teams."
LAKERS 108, HEAT 107: In a battle of superstars, the Lakers' Kobe Bryant got the best of Miami's Dwyane Wade. Bryant scored 33 points, 17 of those in the final quarter, and hit a game-winning three-point bank shot at the buzzer. Wade scored 26 but was just 7-for-21 from the field and 12-for-18 from the line.
