President Pat Riley's Hall of Fame induction predictably spurred many emotions.
"I never really thought much about it when I was coaching; I just never did," he said. "Anything that came my way, anytime honors came my way at that time, they were all distractions." Riley said it's an honor to have the title "Hall of Famer" attached to his name.
"I'm glad I have it," he said. "I don't need it, but I do feel like what I did counted, somewhat mattered in a lot of ways, not just in my relationship with players, but what I feel like I've contributed to the game.
"I don't know what that is or how it's defined, but I feel like I've done something, contributed something to the overall game of basketball, be it my persona, or how I coached, the players that I produced. So, yeah, it's an honor to have that linked to your name."
Riley is eligible for the Hall of Fame this year because he's spent 25 years in the game, therefore the five-year waiting period is waived.
