Beasley's dunk saves Heat, miffs the Magic

Beasley's dunk saves Heat, miffs the Magic Times wires

ORLANDO - Michael Beas?ley dunked a missed shot by Dwyane Wade with 1.6 seconds remaining, lifting the Heat to a 99-98 victory over the Magic on Wednesday night.

Wade's jumper was short, and Beasley soared to take the rebound and seal the victory. Dwight Howard and the Magic bench pleaded for an offensive goaltending call to no avail.

A desperation heave by the Magic's Vince Carter wasn't close on the other end. All this came after guard Jason Williams missed two free throws that could have put Orlando ahead by three.

Beasley had 15 points and Wade 24 as Miami rallied from an 11-point deficit.

Carter had hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 14 seconds left, leaving his hand in the air and skipping to the bench with what Orlando thought was a victory.

Some believe Iverson has something left

PHILADELPHIA - Allen Iverson, set to announce his retirement from the league according to an online report by commentator Stephen A. Smith, may have fallen out of favor with his recent teams. But some believe, like Iverson does, that the 10-time All-Star has something left to offer.

The announcement came as a surprise to George Karl, who coached Iverson in Denver.

"I think he still has something left to give some team out there," Karl said. " I have a sneaky feeling that somewhere along the way an injury or a circumstance with a team will open that window back up."

According to the statement published on the Web site, Iverson, 34, feels "strongly that I can still compete at the highest level."

"I don't ever believe anyone retires until they get to the point they have to," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "He had a great career if it is true, but I still think he has more to offer."

Game highlights: Gerald Wallace scored 31 as the host Bobcats recorded the most lopsided victory in team history, 116-81 over the Raptors. The sixth-year Bobcats' previous biggest win was a 32-point rout of Indiana, Nov. 16, 2005. Mavs guard Jason Kidd got seven assists to move into second place (10,337) on the NBA's career assists list, getting No. 10,335 on an alley-oop pass to Mark Jackson during a road victory against the Rockets. John Stockton is the career leader (15,806). Carmelo Anthony scored 22 as the visiting Nuggets handed the T'wolves their 14th straight loss.
